Welcome to Rigolet
Image
Welcome to Rigolet, Nunatsiavut, an Inuit community with a population of 315 on the North Coast of Labrador. Rigolet is the southern most Inuit community in the world. It was incorporated in 1977.

During the summer months, one can enjoy a refreshing ride in speedboat on the beautiful waters surrounding Rigolet. Fishing, whale watching or simply riding, it is always a satisfying experience. In August, the annual Salmon Festival offers three days of live entertainment, fun & games and a colossal salmon feast.

Berry picking and Hunting for ducks and geese is a traditional activity which many people enjoy during this time of year.

You can enjoy walks on the boardwalk are enjoyed by all during the summer and fall. Rigolet Nunatsiavut has the second longest wooden boardwalk in North America. This boardwalk is 8.4 KM of pristine coastline, where walkers can see minke whales (locally known as grumpas), seals and sea birds. There are many other birds, animals, plants along its shore to explore. Rigolet Seashore wooden boardwalk started as an idea from Rigolet Councillor Roger Shiwak, who thought a great project would be taken back wooden boardwalks. Historically the Hudson's Bay Company had boardwalks connecting its buildings at the waterfront but this became impractical with development of roads. The idea took hold, and the boardwalk began in the early 1900's using material from the dismantled Smokey fish plant, the Labrador 1, as well as lumber from the old school.

With the first snowfall of winter comes the excitement of one of the most enjoyable seasons in Labrador. Snowmobile riding, dog sledding, ice fishing and snowshoeing are a few of the activities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

Spring brings with it long days of sunshine and beautiful, warm weather for more snowmobile riding and ice fishing. The annual Tikigiaksaugusik Cultural Festival is a time for all to experience dog team racing, traditional outdoor activities as well as a community feast and the ever popular square dancing. Seal hunting 'up on the bay' is another traditional activity which many residents of Rigolet still partake in and is anticipated all winter long.

Summer, fall, winter, or spring, there is always something enjoyable to do in Rigolet.

Exquisite scenery, along with a warm-hearted community equals an incredible place to live and/or visit!
